Simple majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the City of Washington, Franklin County, Missouri, impose and renew a sales tax of one-half (1/2) of one percent for transportation purposes? This tax will expire automatically on June 30, 2050.Summary: The measure would continue a half-cent sales tax for transportation purposes until 2050. It isn't set to expire until 2030 but officials want to renew it early to allow four to five years to apply for state and federal grants requiring local matching funds. The tax raises about $3 million a year. Supporters say projects that could be completed include Highway 100 connectors, road reconstruction and making city streets compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Regular street, highway and sidewalk maintenance also would continue.
