Dunklin Fire District Proposition P
Simple majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the board of directors of the Dunklin Fire Protection District be authorized to levy an annual additional tax of not more than five cents ($0.05) on the one hundred dollars ($100.00) assessed valuation, the revenues from which shall be deposited in a special fund and used only for the pension program of the district?Summary: The measure would allow the district to increase the property tax rate devoted to pensions by 5 cents per $100 assessed valuation. If passed, the owner of a home worth $200,000 would pay an additional $19 in taxes annually. In 2006, voters approved a five-cent property tax to fund the pension plan but district officials say it does not provide enough revenue. Supporters say the 10 district staffers need a good pension to provide sufficient support for timely retirement and that a good pension plan is necessary to attract and retain high-quality firefighters.
