Bayless School District Proposition I
Four-sevenths majority required.Ballot wording: Shall Bayless Consolidated School District, St. Louis County, Missouri issue its general obligation bonds in the amount of Twenty Three Million Dollars ($23,000,000), resulting in no estimated increase to the debt service property tax levy, for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving, renovating, repairing, furnishing and equipping school sites, buildings and related facilities, including but not limited to (a) health, safety and security improvements throughout the District, (b) building modernization, site enhancements and energy efficiency improvements, and (c) classroom and learning space renovations including constructing a new student and community activity and learning center? If this proposition is approved, the adjusted debt service levy of the school district is estimated to remain unchanged at the current levy of $0.6320 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation of real and personal property.Summary: The measure would allow the district to borrow $23 million to make security and facility upgrades. If passed, taxes would not increase, but the district’s debt obligation would be extended. Safety and security upgrades, roof repairs and replacements, and plumbing and electrical work would be done in district buildings. In addition, a new storm shelter would be built and playground equipment would be upgraded. Supporters say this work is important to maintain the district's facilities, save energy and enhance learning spaces for quality education.
