Clayton School District Proposition O
Four-sevenths majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the School District of Clayton, St. Louis County, Missouri, borrow money in the amount of One Hundred Thirty-Five Million Dollars ($135,000,000) for the purpose of constructing, improving, renovating, acquiring, furnishing and equipping school sites, buildings and related facilities, including but not limited to constructing new and/or renovating or equipping existing classrooms, libraries, fine and performing arts spaces, gymnasiums, storm shelters, building operational components, safety, security, and technology infrastructure, and outdoor play spaces and athletic facilities, and issue general obligation bonds for the payment thereof? If this proposition is approved, the adjusted debt service levy of the school district is estimated to remain unchanged at the current levy of $0.5110 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation of real and personal property.Summary: The measure would allow the district to borrow $135 million to fund the first phase of projects in its long-term master plan. If passed, taxes would not increase, but the district’s debt obligation would be extended. Major projects include the full renovation of 97-year-old Glenridge Elementary School, construction of a new STEM lab and major upgrades to athletic facilities and Gay Field at Clayton High School. Other renovations and repairs would be made as money permits. Supporters say the renovations are needed to enhance the learning experiences and safety for students and staff and for Clayton to remain a top-tier district. Officials say the master plan was developed with significant community input.
