Maplewood Proposition M
Four-sevenths majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the City of Maplewood, Missouri issue its general obligation bonds in the aggregate amount of $10,600,000 for the purpose of constructing, repairing, renovating, extending, improving, furnishing and equipping the city hall and police facility?Summary: The proposition would allow the city to borrow $10.6 million to expand and renovate the city government and police facility. Building plans include complete renovation of the existing space and an addition of about 3,400 square feet on each of two levels. If passed, the city's property tax rate would increase by 25 cents per $100 assessed valuation. The owner of a home worth $300,000 would pay about $142 more a year in taxes. Proponents say the renovation is needed to address aging infrastructure, increase security and redesign the space for its current usage. They add that the improvements would provide more space for community gatherings, improve compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and bring the facilities up to current law enforcement standards.
