Mid-County Fire District Proposition E

Four-sevenths majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the Mid-County Fire Protection District of St. Louis County, Missouri, issue its general obligation bonds in the amount of $9,500,000 for the purposes of acquiring, constructing, extending, renovating, improving, replacing, furnishing and equipping fire stations and related facilities, including acquiring any necessary land; acquiring and equipping life-saving and firefighting vehicles; and acquiring emergency rescue, fire protection and firefighting apparatus and auxiliary equipment to carry out the objectives and purposes of the District, improve emergency services and reduce response times?Summary: The measure would allow the district to borrow $9.5 million to replace a firehouse, acquire emergency rescue and firefighting equipment and replace aging fire trucks and water tankers. If passed, taxes would not increase but the district’s debt obligation would be extended. The district says replacing the water tankers is especially important because there are few hydrants in the area. Supporters say the upgrades are essential to reduce call response times and provide good emergency service.
