West Overland EMS and Fire District Proposition S
Four-sevenths majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the West Overland EMS and Fire Protection District of St. Louis County, Missouri issue its general obligation bonds in the amount of six million dollars for the purposes of acquiring, constructing, extending, renovating, improving, replacing, furnishing and equipping fire stations and related facilities including acquiring any necessary land; acquiring and equipping life-saving and firefighting vehicles; and acquiring emergency rescue, fire protection and firefighting apparatus and auxiliary equipment all to carry out the objectives and purposes of the District, improve emergency services and reduce response times?Summary: The measure would allow the fire district to borrow $6 million to renovate facilities and buy equipment. The bond issue would not spur a tax increase but the district’s debt would be extended four to six more years. Proponents say repairs and renovation are needed at the engine house and a nearby garage housing vehicles and equipment. Officials say the district also needs to purchase a new fire truck and other equipment and that costs have increased.
